Jaemi Levine: News Report-Sexual Predators

At a meeting at Oriole Elementary school Thursday night, parents and their children also learned how these criminals operate and how to protect themselves. It is information Jaemi Levine, an advocate for children and the founder of Mothers Against Predators (MAP), wishes she had six years ago.

"My daughter was the victim of an online predator when she was 12-years-old," Levine told CBS4's Gwen Belton.

Since then Levine and her daughter Nicole have been on a mission to educate parents and children by telling Nicole's story.

Jaemi's interview can be viewed by clicking HERE.

"I was not in the greatest of mindsets, and went online and was talking to somebody, and gullible enough to give him my trust," says Nicole.

Now 17, Nicole often tells her story to other children and teenagers hoping to prevent what happened to her from happening to someone else.

She says, "My main reason to talk to other kids to make sure that I help them."

It's a message about being smart and safe.

Parent Leah Liburd says, "I want to learn more about what I can do as a parent to be aware of situations like this."

13-year-old Emmanuel Laporte says "Now I learned never to to trust anyone that you don't know."

While there are many laws on the books to protect children from sexual offenders and predators, authorities say parents must still remain vigilant and one step ahead to ensure their child's safety. One of the best ways to do that they say is simply by talking.

Jaemi Levine is also running for a seat on the Broward County School Board District 4.
